GREENE, WEST SALEM TOWNSHIPS — A father and son were killed Friday morning when their pickup crashed on state Route 58 near the West Salem-Greene township line, officials said.

Stephan Zawistowski, 82, of 157 W. Main St., Greenville, was driving and lost control of the wheel at 10:45 a.m., state police said.

Zawistowski and his son, Theodore Zawistowski, 38, of 89 Fredonia Road, Hempfield Township, were pronounced dead at the scene at 11:35 a.m. by Mercer County Deputy Coroner Cris Loutzenhiser.

Police said the pickup was traveling west, went into a ditch and then struck several trees.

Neither man was wearing a seatbelt. Both were in the passenger compartment when police and rescue workers arrived.

The elder Zawistowski died of chest trauma and his son’s cause of death was head trauma, Loutzenhiser said. No autopsy is planned.
