Alumni Update - Gregg Davis

Its been quite a while since I've written an update and a hell of a lot has changed in the last year or so. So much so, I'm not sure exactly where to start. Last September, I married my girlfriend of 3 years, Jaclyn Cooper. We did a small Vegas wedding at the Shalimar Wedding Chapel on the strip (outdoor package #3). The original plan had been to just elope and get married at a drive through in a convertible, but - for the sake of our mothers - we had a small wedding with direct family and a friend or two. Sean Spudich (Bro Meat) was my best man. After the wedding we sent everyone home and we did some exploring in the southwest, eventually ending up in Colorado, coincidentally for another wedding of a friend of my wife's. We both really love the open spaces in Colorado (my wife's "native") as compared to suburban Philadelphia, but we left Colorado thinking that there was nothing for me to do in the state career-wise, as most biotech/pharmaceutical R&D is located on either the east or west coasts. Turns out we were wrong...

During this time I had been becoming increasingly dissatisfied with my job at GlaxoSmithKline (that's a subject for a book). I had held out until I finished my master's degree in Pharmacology in November (GSK was paying), then started looking. My area of drug discovery expertise is pretty specific to inflammation-/immuno-pharmacology, so I started searching for openings in other big pharma and biotech companies. I found what I was looking for at a company called Array BioPharma, which was coincidentally located in Boulder, Colorado. Array is a large biotech/small pharma company which focuses on drugs for treatment of cancer and inflammation. The interview went well and they offered me a job, I accepted, and relocated all between February and May of 2008. We moved out here in the middle of May, sold our condo after 2 days on the market, found a house in a nearby town called Longmont and settled by mid-June. The move went smoothly, except my fraternity paddle was temporarily lost in Erie.... Colorado. The bulk of our stuff had been in storage while we were in temporary housing and it was misplaced by the movers, then found by the office workers, who loved it and hung it up in the front office! That's good, because the thought of it lying on some dusty floors actually gave me nightmares of potential "encouragement" by my pledge master for loosing my paddle. Anyway, since then Jackie and I have been pretty busy getting the house together, and I've been getting settled into the new job. Besides that, lots of hiking.

So that's about it. Seems like a lot for 11 months. I'll be back to PA for PSU's glorious victory over those damn Wolverines in October, and for some low-altitude drinking. And if anyone's out this way for skiing, they'll need to stop by for a beer or a place to stay (we have plenty of room, although we're probably about at least an hour's drive to the nearest ski slope).

Howdy all,

I'd like to announce the birth of our son, Jean-Luc. He was born on July 9th (his due date to be exact), weighed 6 lbs., 11 oz and looks pretty darn cute. Colley did well during the entire labor and delivery and I had the privilege of delivering him myself.

We are very blessed and give thanks to God that Jean-Luc had a healthy trip the entire 40 weeks.

Stephen Hornyak Gets Married

I recently got married on April 26^th. I meant to write earlier but all I had time for was a picture. Going along with what Jeb Murphy said, “SKN has been a wonderful part of my life”. I know that people are wondering why I am starting by writing about SKN and not my wedding. Well, here is a little insight into what I have taken from this organization. Thanks to Sigma Kappa Nu, I met Colleen, my now wife, at a mixer with the Theta Phi Alpha sorority back in the Fall of 2002 while I was pledging. As SKN was changing with the moving from house to house she was there along for the ride with me. She helped me when I was president and trying to find a new location in the Winter of 2005. A few months after I found the residence that the fraternity is currently in, Colleen moved in with me since I was the only one living there. I needed help with the rent and it just worked for us. Shortly after that we got additional roommates and the fraternity started to grow again. Colleen understood how important the fraternity was to me and she would even temporarily relocate herself during the two “Most Wonderful Times of the Year.”

We graduated in 2006. We then moved to Florida where I worked for the slave driving Bauers’ (thanks again for the opportunity). Upon our first visit back to Erie for the fraternity’s alumni annual Casino weekend, I proposed at the site of the original Skin House. We left Florida and moved to Pittsburgh and started planning our wedding in Erie. During the planning we visited the fraternity house almost every other weekend and seeing two new pledge classes get inducted gave us both that nostalgic feeling of being around something unique.

On the wedding day, I was looking down the row of my groomsmen and almost everyone was a brother. Also, a good number of the guests were brothers from all different time periods, not just from when I was in school. Since the fraternity was such a huge part of both of our lives lead me to lavaliere Colleen as part of my gift to her. And, being that I have been so close with the actives in the years after my graduation I swallowed my pride and took their punishment.

I currently have been involved in planning the reunion and trying to find a permanent residence for the actives. I hope to see all of you this summer on July 25^th when we can have a few drinks and talk about how it was, is, and will be.

Cheatle Update

My wife Hannah and I have been very busy over the last
couple of years. In June 2006, we traveled to Austria
and Italy, where we got engaged in the Austrian Alps.
A year later, we had a small wedding ceremony with
just our immediate family in the Grand Tetons in
Wyoming. We had a very lovely wedding surrounded by
the mountains.

September last year we found out that
Hannah was pregnant. We decided to wait until the
birth to find out if it was a boy or girl. Last
Saturday we found out that it was a healthy baby boy,
Braden Allen Cheatle!!

We also purchased a home in St. Marys in May of last
year and have been doing some small remodeling
projects around the house. I am currently working at
Osram Sylvania in St. Marys as a Process Engineer. I
hope to keep in touch with everyone in the fraternity
a little more in the future.
