THE DIFFERENCE...
From Dave Starsnic:
I was wearing a Penn State sweatshirt, and guy asked if I went.
I was wearing a Penn State sweatshirt, and guy asked if I went.
I said yes, and then he said he went to Behrend. He graduated in 92
He followed with I was a KDR.
I said I graduated in 91 and I am a SKN.
Was a KDR, always a SKN
That may well be the difference....

SKN-DX Football Game April 25th, 2009
.No Money...Just the Memories
For the full Panorama View Click on the Pic

Greetings Brothers,
My name is Glenn Palmer (Fall 2005), I am the Vice President and Spring 2009 Pledge Master at Sigma Kappa Nu. Some of you guys might know me from making an occasional trip up to the wonderful Penn State Behrend. Others might know me as being one of two active brothers to make the trip out to state college for Sigma Kappa Nu's 25th Reunion.
Getting the chance to meet all of you guys at the reunion was great. Before this summer the names, John D. Fronko, Dan Johns, Dan Coate, Mike Fievet were just that, Names. It's not until you are 8 straight Jager Bombs deep with Dan Coate till you realize wow we haven't changed in 25 years.
Whether it was Shon Flemming and Mark Bauer attempting to kill anyone that looked at them funny or a shirtless, crying Murph running around telling us how much he loved us. It is just a reminder SkiN hasn't changed. I was able to witness an alumnus pass out hammered in an alley by a Dumpster, watch Dave Krauth wreck havoc in his own bar, and be part of a Group of wandering Skins that were denied admittance to a bar because we were apparently too drunk. This was all on the first night.
I have stories from that weekend that I will remember forever. I would love for you guys to come for our annual Football Game on April 25th, 2009.
We will once again be playing Delta Chi the second largest Fraternity on campus. The game will be held at the same venue as last year in Northeast. This will be a great chance to take a vacation or sick day and come up to Erie, Pa for the weekend. This weekend always promises to be a drunken, adventure filled experience.
The Active Membership of Sigma Kappa Nu is thriving. Our Numbers are back in the high twenties. The possibility of breaking 30 actives by the end of the school year is amazing. It has been over 5 years since we have had numbers that rival that. We have reinstated the Sweetheart and will be getting a composite this year, the fraternity has not had once since 2001.
We have plenty of room for every one that wants to join us. Please come up and give all of these actives a glimpse of what I saw this past summer at State College. If you have any questions feel free to contact me anytime.
I know most of the emails you receive from us are asking for money or something else bothersome. The weekend of April 25th will not be like that. We want the memories, not the money.

Penn State Football
This past fall I made it to Penn State for my first football game since the Nebraska game in 2002. This time, however, I was there for work. The sports guy at my station and I were in State College following the local university, Coastal Carolina, as they played in their biggest football game in school history. It was a fun, but quick trip. We flew in and out on the team plane, and had some work to do. We did have time to eat dinner at Rotelli's (http://www.rotellistatecollege.com/), hit the town, and hang out with Dave Krauth (Fall 1988). I have learned that there is no better place to watch the game than on the sidelines, and that is where I ran into Bob Capwell (Fall 1983) . Unfortunately there was no time for post game celebrations, since the team plane left less than an hour after the end of the game. We were told it would leave with or without us. A fun weekend all around, and I need to get back up there for a non-working football weekend this year.
Here are a few alumni tidbits since my last blog:
* Joe Thompson (Spring 1998) married Natalie in July 2005 and had a daughter, Meredith in Jan 2007.
* Mike Somerhalder (Spring 1985) is getting re-married in July and will be moving this summer.
* A little news to pass on from Stevie Ray Needler (Brother Wonder F’85) :
"Zach has been deployed to Al Taqaddum,
* Susan McCarty (Fall 1984) was married to Joseph Perez Bertot in December and had baby girl Luna Lucia Perez in February.
* Matt & Christy McCanna (Spring 1992) are expecting their third child in August.
* Jim Joubert (Fall 1987) is now a physician in Washington and recently had his first child.
* Todd Harpst (Fall 1989) had his second son last summer.
* Pat Truitt (Fall 1988) just wrote letting me know his second child is coming in June, a girl!
I heard from enough of you to keep me doing this. Thanks!

Update
It has been a long time since I have sat down and written for the Blog. I had planned on writing something original each month or so, but have gotten into the habit of just cut & pasting when someone sends me stuff.
I am going to try and post updates more often.... IF PEOPLE READ THIS. I don't want to waste my time. So please let me know that this is worth the effort by making a comment to the blog, or sending me a quick email. Also, I am always looking for help here, so if you would like to be a regular blogger, or just occasionally send me gossip, please let me know.
As you most likely know, I am currently updating the SKN database, and looking for any changes. This is a tedious task that I try to do each year, but I think last year's effort was half hearted on my part. I will do a better job this year, due to some extra time on my hands. Because of this horrible economy, my company has implemented a mandatory two week furlough. It is basically a reduction in pay, but we don't have to come to work.... not bad! Because of this, I will have some idle time on my hands.
On to the updates!
Steve Bodner just had his fifth child three months ago! Here is a pic of three of his kids from July, 2008.

Mike Currykosky is expecting his second boy in May, and Eric Bailey is expecting a new baby in the next week! Larry Bud sent this pic of his family:

Jon Tunney and family spent some time down here visiting and beaching last spring. I meant to post a pic, but got lazy. Pat Espin will be down here next month, and I hope to meet up with him. I'll try to post more often. Let me know if it is worth it!

Congrats B.A.!
There is a new Red Sox fan in the world (at least she had better be). Jordan Rose Adams was born at home in Richmond, VA on January 25th at 9:15AM (7lb 6oz, 21 inches) She is not 6 feet tall yet but I imagine given the gunboat feet and big mitts she will be in the not too distant future. And yes I said she was born at home, with a midwife. BA is more becoming more granola in his old age…though to be honest I would not have changed a thing. Mom and Dad are doing well though often confused, disoriented and tired. The dogs are adjusting to their drop in status relatively well.
Best Wishes to all
B.A., Michela and Jordan
Nightstalker Fall 1987
P.S. Of course I've included some pictures. Notice Dad's look of trepidation when holding the kid. That was day one and he is becoming increasingly more comfortable over time.

New SKN Sports Bar
While Pittsburgh Steelers fans await Sunday's big kickoff, an equally big kickoff for area sports fans is set for Friday. That's when Sluggers Sports Bar and Grill opens at 14 E. 10th St., the former home of Peccadillo's. Owners Dave Freeman, Jasen Schardt, and Ed Newton spent about $250,000 to completely remodel the club and turn it into a downtown sports heaven.
Sluggers boasts 45 screens, including a 12-footer, two 10-foot ones, and 24 plasma sets. Most will broadcast in high definition. The bar will subscribe to every sports package imaginable, including NFL Ticket and NASCAR, as well as pay-per-view events such as Ultimate Fighting. No cover charges will apply.
Sluggers, which will be smoke-free, also features a game room with five pool tables, miniature bowling, air hockey, darts, and more. Mitch Mozur, who helped open Texas Roadhouse and ran the kitchen there, will be the Sluggers chef. The club will offer several types of hand-cut steaks -- porterhouse, filet mignon, sirloin -- as well as burgers, 30 flavors of wings, and more. Eleven beers, including craft names such as Magic Hat No. 9, Cherry Wheat, Guinness, and Railbender, will be on tap.
"The place is completely remodeled from end to end. It's basically a whole new bar," Freeman said.Crowds had thinned at Peccadillo's, once Erie's hottest nightspot. Freeman said a downtown sports bar made sense."The sports bar was always the most popular thing for Peccadillo's," he said. "That's pretty much where everyone gravitated to. So, with the new place, we made the whole thing one giant sports bar. It seemed to be what people wanted.
"Plus, we don't have a real sports bar downtown. I believe Erie has been lacking a world-class sports bar since Wild Cards closed," Freeman added. "And we're right across the street from the ball field and basketball and Otters and all that. I think it's perfect for Erie.
"Music will be a part of the club after 10 p.m. on weekends with either a DJ or live bands (M-80s play Friday). But the main thrust will be sports and meals, with Sluggers open for lunch (starting next week) and dinners."We'll have a really big menu with sports-bar prices but served in a four-star way," Freeman said.
Sluggers opens Friday, Jan 30, just a few days before the biggest day in sports. It will offer a Bud Light and wings special for the Super Bowl. Between the newness of the club and the itching-to-see-it factor -- heck, even Benjamin Button is curious -- it will likely be packed."With our 40-some screens and seating for 400 people, it'll be one heck of a party," Freeman said.

I wanted to announce a new legacy! My daughter, Amelia Apolonia Morales was born Thursday, 1/29/09 at 12:45 pm. She weighs 7 lbs 4.4 ounces and has a full head of hair.
